Why COAs Matter: Understanding Hemp Product Lab Results

In a market flooded with hemp-derived products, consumers are left to wonder: Can I trust what’s on the label? This is where Certificates of Analysis (COAs) come in.

What Is a COA?

A Certificate of Analysis is a third-party lab report that details what is (and isn’t) in your hemp product. COAs test for:

  • Cannabinoid content (CBD, THC, THCa, etc.)
  • Terpene profiles
  • Pesticides
  • Heavy metals
  • Residual solvents
  • Microbial contaminants
  • Mycotoxins
  • Foreign materials

These reports are the best method to validate product quality in the absence of FDA regulation.

Why It Matters
  • Consumer Confidence – Without regulation from the FDA, COAs are the best assurance of product integrity.
  • Dosage Accuracy – Knowing the exact cannabinoid content ensures consistent effects.
  • Safety – COAs help consumers avoid harmful contaminants, like mold or chemical residues.
  • Transparency – Companies that provide easy access to COAs signal integrity and professionalism.
Not Required, But Always Recommended

Although COAs are not federally mandated, we treat them as a baseline requirement. Every brand we carry provides full-panel COAs and includes QR codes on the packaging for instant access. Our policy is to only accept COAs that are less than 12 months old, ensuring freshness and accuracy.

How to Read a COA
  • Date: Ensure the COA is recent (within the last year)
  • Cannabinoid Breakdown: Look for total CBD, THCa, and especially delta-9 THC
  • Compliance Status: Confirm the product contains <=0.3% delta-9 THC
  • Lab Accreditation: Check that the lab is ISO-certified for credibility
  • Batch Consistency: Match the COA batch ID to the packaging

COAs empower you to make informed decisions. When you shop at our NC-based hemp dispensary, transparency is guaranteed—and so is your peace of mind.
